WSA Class Schedule: Summer 2012
Classes Start, Monday, June 25th and Classes End Friday, August 17th
This year we will continue to mix morning and afternoon sessions so all classes have an opportunity to rig and de-rig boats — an essential skill for all sailors. Our classes are not separated by age, but by skill. Minimum Age is 8. (Some exceptions can be made.)
NOTE May 1st Deadline for Early Registration Discounts.

The Beginning class will again be offered in 4 week sessions.

Beginner1 and Beginner2 are the same class, but meet at different times. For those wanting the full 8 weeks, please register for Beginner 2, if possible. There is NO distinction between the two classes based on skill level. The goal is to limit class size to 18 students and to keep Beginner 2 as a full summer class, all 8 weeks, if possible.

Beginner 1 - Mon & Tues 9-noon, Wed 1-4 pm - 4 weeks
Beginner 2 - Mon 1-4 pm, Wed & Fri 9-noon - if possible all 8 weeks

Intermediate is one skill level up from Beginners for more advanced students who are not yet ready or interested in racing. Students can paricipate in NBYA regattas if the instructor agrees. The goal is to limit class to 15.

Intermediate - Tues & Fri 1-4 pm, Thurs. 9-noon - if possible all 8 weeks

Introduction to Racing is for sailors who have completed the Intermediate course; are 13 years of age or older; or have permission from the program director. The students will explore advanced boathandling and basic racing techniques, but do not have to enter race regattas. They will meet for one full day and a half day per week. This will allow the students maximum exposure to various weather conditions in order to grow more confident with dinghy racing. Classes will use Zuma (single sail) and 420 sailboats (main & jib sails).

Intro to Racing - Mon 1-4 pm, Wed all day

Opti Racers is generally where a sailor will move up to from Intermediates. It is intended for students who want to learn how to race and perhaps aspire to be on the racing team. Participation in NBYA regattas is encouraged for these students. They will meet 2 full days and a half day and will primarily use Optis. They may move into 420s as size and experience warrant.

Opti Racers - Mon. & Wed. all day, & Thursday 1-4 pm

Racers (420 and Laser) is the highest skill level. This class consists of advanced students who are skilled enough to contribute to the success of the Wickford program at interclub team racing and enjoy bay area regattas hosted by NBYA. They meet 3 full days and are instructed in either 2 person 420s or their personally owned Laser.

Racers - All day Tues, Thurs & Fri - 9am-4pm

Team Racing: Based on interest and schedule, some racers will contribute to the success of the Wickford program with interclub team racing.

8 weeks vs. 4 weeks:
Racing classes do not have the option of signing up for 4 weeks. Intermediate and Intro to Racing sailors are encouraged to sail all summer. If they can not, please discuss Registration needs ASAP.
